I worked as a freelancer here for about 2 years. Would NOT recommend it if you ever want to go somewhere with your career. I was promised and toyed with for a year straight in regards to being hired and having a job in the creative department. I even had an interview with the higher ups and they “were so impressed” with my past work. I worked hard and even helped other departments. Finally I was promised to have an opportunity only to find out through the plenty of gossip that my position was given to an intern to work for free. They even let me dip my toes in the art department and edit a few photos for a week or two, then the lady in charge sent me an email at 4:59pm (they close at 5pm) right before Christmas break saying that they didn’t have the budget to give me the contract position after all. Then I quit.
Horrible, passive aggressive, and full of gossip. They aren’t inclusive as they will throw a mini birthday party for only certain people (always found it odd how much praise and attention the white people got, meanwhile me; a biracial women and every other coloured person I worked with got nothing). I believe in an inclusive, professional, friendly and effective workplace and SJC certainly fell short.

Had a few interviews which included with a European woman. She seemed ok but she tried to low ball the salary range which wasn't comparable to my experience and the market.

Wasn't feeling great than I was speaking with my neighbours friends and they all knew her. Apparently she only hires other ex-pats (Europeans) that are her friends, or friends of friends. Tries to hide the connections from her team and company cause it's hybrid though some of them travel and work remotely together abroad a lot of the time. Decided against the low ball offer.

Don't recommend working here because SJC promotes a corporate culture of cronyism and poor pay. Downtown Toronto is small. Word gets around.

After sending 2 emails that went on answered I phoned St Joseph's communication about my Maclean's subscription. Very disappointed in the huge increase in the price especially considering how much smaller the magazine has gotten over the years as well as the fact that it's only published once a month instead of once a week now. Would not offer me a discount or promotional price despite the fact that I have been a loyal customer for many many years. So I cancelled my subscription.

Sponsored an ad titled "Do You Pass the 'Pretty' Test? Am I pretty or just average." Disgusting and misogynistic.
